NotesErich Gruner was born in 1881, and was a painter, draftsman and printmaker. Gruner studied at the Royal Academy of Graphic Arts and Printing Arts in Leipzig. From 1905-06, the artist studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, with Jean-Paul Laurens, among others.

Gruner took study trip to Normandy, Brittany and Belgium. From 1930-46, the artist was conductor of the Leipzig school of Applied Arts. Erich Gruner has been a freelance artist since 1946. Gruner was also a designer of the logo of the Leipzig trade Fair, publisher of graphic portfolios, and numerous stamp series.
