NotesShinichi Yamada (1899-1991) was a Japanese artist known for his Western-influenced paintings, particularly his work in the Impressionist style. He is considered one of the most influential Japanese artists of the 20th century. Trained at the Western painting department of the Tokyo Art School after high school, and in Paris beginning in 1928, Shinichi Yamada studied under Edmond Aman-Jean in Paris, and exhibited his work at the Salon Tuileries in 1929.
