NotesShimamura Minao (January 9 – born in the town of Shima. July 1904 in Osaka ; died 25. October 1978) was a Japanese painter in the Western style.

Shimamura Minao studied under Fujishima Takeji in the Department of Western Painting at the Tōkyō Bijutsu Gakkō, the forerunners of today's Tokyo University of Arts, graduating in 1929.

Already during his training in 1928 Shimamura was able to show a picture on the “Teiten”. Immediately after completing his studies, he went to France and was able to show a work at the exhibition of the Société du Salon d'Automne in the same year. In order to continue his education, he attended the Ecole National Supérieure of the Beaux-Arts de Paris, but left it after two years. He then attended the Académie Ranson and studied fresco technique and helped with the mural painting of Guyonne.

From 1933 to 1936, Shimamura exhibited images in the "Salon des Artistes Francois", whereby the painting Yugetto Tonon was awarded the "Mansion Honorable Prize" in 1934. In 1936, he returned to Japan. In 1940, Shimamura became a member of the "Nihon Heki gakai". In the same year, he was awarded a prize for a picture on the Dokuritsu-ten (a) and was accepted as a "Friend of the Society".

In 1966 Universität der Künste Tokiohe became an assistant professor, in 1967 and was a professor. In 1967, he was awarded the prize of the Academy of Arts for his painting Tatsumi-hashi In 1971, He retired. In 1973, he worked in a commission that took care of the receipt of the tomb Takamatsuzuka Kofun with their old frescoes.
