NotesGustave Henri Fabius Scipion Marchetti is the son of Scipion Édouard Félix Marchetti, a draftsman, and Anne Boital. A student of William Bouguereau, Gabriel Ferrier, Joseph Blanc and Jacques Perrin at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he exhibited at the Salon from 1892.
In 1897, he won the Prix de Caylus and competed the same year for the Prix de Rome by proposing his version of Vulcan Chains Prometheus on the Peaks of the Caucasus. A painter, he received an honorable mention in 1900 and became a member of the Society of French Artists in 1901. An etcher and aquafortist, he received an honorable mention in 1905.
In 1915, he married Marie Eugénie Chéry. During the First World War, he joined the 9th Engineer Regiment. In August 1916, he joined the air force and was assigned to aerial photography. After living and working in Suresnes, he moved to the capital, rue Tholozé.
He won a silver medal in 1931, a gold medal and the Gabriel Ferrier prize in 1937.
He died in Paris at the age of 65. His last two paintings, The Sculptor and Country Idyll, were presented posthumously at the 1939 Salon.
