NotesThe printer German Gerd Hatje in Stuttgart created this print in 1962 working closely under Picasso's supervision to reproduce the look and feel of the original linocut of 1959. The format was reduced by about 40%, suitable for book format, and new blocks were cut from which the prints were made. Hatje selected to recreate the prints by cutting new blocks, at great expense, rejecting all other printing techniques as inferior for this project. These prints are essentially original relief prints.
In 2010, this book was reissued by Cercle d'Art in an edition of 1000, but the prints in these were reproduced by offset lithography - caviat emptor!
