NotesJosé María Jardines was born in Cádiz. He studied at the School of Fine Arts in his hometown and later at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. His career as a painter unfolded in Paris for several years. He held exhibitions in the French capital, as well as in Cádiz and Madrid. In 1914, he returned to Cádiz, where he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts. The Frick Art Reference Library (New York) has a collection of photographs and reproductions of his works. His son and disciple was the painter Antonio Jardines (Paris, 1898-? ).
