NotesFrançois Batet is the pseudonym of Francisco Batet Pellejero, born on September 21 , 1921 in Barcelona, and died on December 5 , 2015 , is a Spanish illustrator , known for his work in illustrating childhood and youth literature at the Hachette publishing house. Batet studied paintin at the Academia Tárrega in Barcelona . There he met a painter, Angelina Lavernia, whom he married January 5, 1949. In 1951, the couple settled in France. They had two children there: François, born in 1956, and Carmen, born in 1958. François Batet then worked as an illustrator for various periodicals including France-Soir, France Dimanche, and Confidences. He then turned to illustrating novels for young people, first for Éditions Gautier-Languereau and then for Éditions Hachette. From 1977 onward, he devoted himself to painting and lithography focusing on his favorite theme: the representation of female characters from the 1920s in the Art Deco style.
