NotesJac (Jacques) Auguste Martin-Ferrières was born in Saint-Paul-Cap-de-Joux. He was the son of the painter Henri Martin and Marie Thérèse Charlotte Barbarrant. His brother Claude-René Martin was also a painter. A student of his father Henri Martin, Fernand Cormon and Ernest Laurent, he exhibited at the Salon. He devoted his debut to pointille style of painting and gradually detached himself from the artistic currents to fashion. He received an honorable mention in 1920, a silver medal in 1923, and was awarded a travel scholarship in 1924. In 1928 he created the frescoes of the church of Saint Kitts Andes-de-Javel, tracing the life of Saint Christopher. In 1933, he married Régine Bertholus; the painter Henri Le Sidaner witnessed the marriage. He won a Hector-Lefuel Award 1934. For the church of Saint-Louis of Marseille, he created the frescoes of the Way of the Cross, a frieze one meter high. The fourteen stations are represented on five panels. He died in Neuilly-sur-Seine at the age of 78.
