NotesSelf-portrait as the daring young man on the flying trapeze, signed in reddish ink at lower right corner, executed in brown ink-wash and white gouache on smooth, cream vellum, without margins. Saroyan, a consummate artist in addition to a brilliant novelist and playwright, pictured himself here as the daring young man following the publication in 1934 of his "Daring Young Man on the Flying Trapeze". He pictured himself with bushy hair and black mustache smoking a cigar wearing a trapeze performer leotard
