NotesJean-Louis Forain was considered one of the most important artists in France during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His friend Degas got him interested in the Paris ballet and its dancers and patrons as subjects for his art. This work show Forain’s affinity with Degas’ interest in dancers captured in everyday activities. It is an excellent example of Forain’s earlier Impressionistic works. (source: J. D. Smith Fine Art)
