NotesBorn and raised in Hastings, Nebraska, Shirley Shaneyfelt became a well-known regional artist and art teacher in the Washington DC area in the late 20th Century. Because of adopting the painting style of Abstract Expressionism, she was leading edge among many of her contemporaries, but ever committed to ongoing learning and experimenting, she never allowed herself to be confined by any style or method.
