NotesGustavo Úbeda Romero was a prominent Spanish painter, ceramist, poet, and playwright. Born in Herencia (Ciudad Real, Spain), he belonged to a family deeply rooted in the arts; his brother Agustín Úbeda was a famous painter, and his brother Ángel Úbeda was a photographer.

His paintings are highly recognized for their surrealist, abstract figurative style. His portfolio prominently features dreamlike landscapes and avant-garde human forms, as seen in pieces like Escena surrealista.

Much of his signature work directly references cubist and figurative masters. Distinct collections of his work, such as Ecos de Picasso (Echoes of Picasso), explicitly pay homage to the Spanish modern art legacy.

Though he lived in Madrid during his youth, his career eventually expanded to Brazil, where he spent a significant portion of his life and passed away in São Paulo. His paintings are highly collectible on international fine art platforms like 1stDibs and featured in global museum exhibitions alongside works by Salvador Dalí.
